[00:02:59] Well, [00:03:00] those are our 10 questions. Let’s go back and review and I’ll give you the answers and fun facts. Question one. Which 1986 TV series featured an alien from the planet Melmac? That was ALF and ALF is the acronym for Alien Life Form. Here’s a fun fact. In early episodes of the series you see ALF drinking alcohol. Well, NBC put the brakes on that because they wanted the show to be more family friendly.
[00:03:32] And here’s a cool fact. All of the episode titles are song titles, such as Wild Thing, and Come Fly with Me. How fun to be the person that got to pick a song title for each of the nearly 100 episodes of the series.
[00:03:48]Question two. The series CHiPS was about to California motorcycle cops who were partners. What were their names?
[00:03:57] Well, their names were Ponch [00:04:00] and John. Ponch had the reputation of being a troublemaker and John was more straight-laced. During the filming of the series there was a lot of tension between the two actors. Their names were Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox. In season five, Erik Estrada, the actor that played Ponch, he went on strike over a monetary dispute and he was temporarily replaced by Bruce Jenner. In an ABC news interview
[00:04:27] Erik Estrada said that Ponch and John never drew their guns on the show. Why? Because of the time of day it was on. Many families watch TV during this time slot. When the show started, Erik Estrada had never written a motorcycle before. And here’s a hard fact to stomach. Erik Estrada turned 71 years old in 2020.
[00:04:53] Question three. What 1982 series featured an artificially intelligent black [00:05:00] car named KITT and what was KITT an acronym for? That show was Knight Rider. And KITT stands for Knight Industries Two Thousand. Here’s something you probably have no idea about .The Guinness Book of World ‘s Records gave star David Hasselhoff the honor of being named The Most Watched Man on Television of all time. His two most popular roles were on Knight Rider and Baywatch.
[00:05:29] And speaking of KITT, KITT was a modified 1982 Pontiac Trans am. I bet you didn’t know that the voice of KITT was provided by actor William Daniels who played Mr. Feeney on Boy Meets World. I thought that was a pretty cool fact.
[00:05:48] Question four. In season two of Full House, what is the name of the morning show that character Danny Tanner co-hosts? The answer is Wake [00:06:00] Up San Francisco and his co-host was Rebecca Donaldson. Here’s a fun fact. The family’s dog in this series named Comet, well, that was also Buddy in the original Air Bud movie. And John Stamos, the actor who played Uncle Jesse, well, he has performed on tour with the Beach Boys. He can even be seen in their Kokomo music video.
[00:06:25] Question five. In the series Cheers, what is the name of the character that sits in the same seat at the bar every day? And when he enters the bar, what does everyone say? Well, that character is Norm Peterson played by actor George Wendt. Whenever he would enter the bar, everyone would yell “Norm!” Well, almost everyone. The barmaid Diane would call him Norman. Did you know that Norm is actually his middle name. His official first name was [00:07:00] Hillary, the same name of his grandfather. Have you ever wondered if Norm was drinking real beer? Well in a Fox News article, it mentions that he wasn’t drinking real beer, but instead something called Near Beer. It did have 3% alcohol.
[00:07:18]Well, not everything starts off on a high note. The first week that Cheers debuted, it came in last in the Nielsen ratings. Because of this, the series was almost cancelled. It ended up running from 1982 to 1993 and in its last season, it placed first in the ratings and everyone knew its name. Ted Danson, the actor that played Sam Malone actually went to bartending school to prepare for his role as bartender in the show. The show’s creators did their part too. They visited bars to listen to conversations of bar patrons. Some of that dialogue was [00:08:00] actually used in the show’s scripts.
[00:08:03] Question six. In the series, Family Ties, what is the name of the character played by Michael J. Fox? The character’s name is Alex P Keaton. In the series Alex was a staunch Republican while his parents were liberal ex-hippies. For his role Michael J. Fox won three Emmy awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Speaking of Alex, Matthew Broderick could have had the role of Alex, but he didn’t want to move to California. Family Ties was so popular that President Ronald Reagan once said that it was his favorite show. Maybe it had something to do with Alex being a Reagan Republican.
[00:08:50] Question seven. In the show Growing Pains, what is the name of Mike’s honors student sister? Well, her name is [00:09:00] Carol and she was played by actress Tracey Gold. Here’s a fun fact. Tracey Gold and Kirk Cameron, the actor that played Mike, had actually worked together once before. They were in a McDonald’s commercial and in the commercial, they played brother and sister.
[00:09:18] Speaking of brother and sister, you probably already know this, but Kirk Cameron is the real life brother to Full House actress, Candace Cameron. The theme song titled As Long As We Got Each Other was so popular that in 1989, it made it to number seven on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.
[00:09:41] And here’s kind of a gross fun fact. In an ABC interview, Alan Thicke, the actor who played Mike’s father. Well, he said that before each episode, the cast had a ritual where they’d stick their chewed up piece of gum in a pile. By the end of the series, that pile of gum [00:10:00] weighed 11 pounds. Now that is gross.
[00:10:03]Question eight. In the sitcom Family Matters, what is the name of the Winslow’s nerdy neighbor? Well, his name was Urkel and he was played by actor Jaleel White. The nerdy Urkel was cast to be a one-time character, but as you know, he ended up with a full time role on the series. The popularity of the character caused some division on the set between Jaleel White and the other cast members. Did you know that Family Matters was a spinoff from the series Perfect Strangers?
[00:10:38] Question nine. The long running sitcom Seinfeld is described as a show about what? And for a bonus question, what is the name of Jerry’s neighbor with the trademark hair? Well, Seinfeld is described as a show about nothing and Jerry’s neighbor is [00:11:00] Cosmo Kramer played by actor Michael Richards.
[00:11:03] Here are a few fun facts about the show. When Steven Spielberg was in Poland filming Schindler’s List, he would watch episodes of Seinfeld to help pull him out of the depression he often felt. And remember the episode with the puffy pirate shirt? Well, Jerry Seinfeld donated that shirt to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC. Seinfeld was ranked by TV guide as the best TV show of all time.
[00:11:35] And question 10 . In the hit comedy The Golden Girls, what were the names of the four characters that shared a house in Miami? And for a bonus question, what dessert did they love to eat? Well, these were the four Golden Girls. They were Dorothy, Rose, Blanche and Sophia, and they loved cheesecake.
[00:12:00] [00:12:00] Well, how’s this for souvenirs. The actress Rue McClanahan who played Blanche, well, she supposedly got to keep all of the outfits that she wore on the show. It was reported that she had a clause in her contract allowing her to do so. Well lucky her. And speaking of that cheesecake, during the filming of the series, the ladies ate over 100 cheesecakes. In real life, actress Bea Arthur, she’s the one that played Dorothy, she actually hated cheesecake. So that was no treat for her.
