Trivia Rewind – Midweek TV Quotes

Debi Jenkins 0:04
Hey there. This is Debi Jenkins, your host of Trivia Rewind. It’s time for another bonus episode of Midweek TV Quotes. Here’s how it works. I’ll give you five quotes from TV shows. After the quotes, you’ll get some fun facts. This week, you’ll find out which actress bought an oceanfront home in Malibu at the young age of 11 years old. And one of the shows we’re talking about was nominated for 62 Emmy Awards. Are you ready to play?

Debi Jenkins 0:39
Here’s quote one. “How you doin’?”

Debi Jenkins 0:44
Quote two. “The truth is out there.”

Debi Jenkins 0:49
Quote three “You got it dude!”

Debi Jenkins 0:53
Quote four. “Marsha, Marsha Marsha.”

Debi Jenkins 0:58
And quote five. “That’s what she said.”

Debi Jenkins 1:02
Those are our quotes. Let’s go back, review, get the answers and fun facts.

Debi Jenkins 1:08
Quote one. “How you doin’? “This quote comes from this sitcom Friends and is said by Joey Tribbiani played by actor Matt LeBlanc. In over 10 seasons and 236 episodes, Joey said this line less than 20 times. The first time he said it was halfway through season four. Matt LeBlanc was nominated for three Emmy Awards for his role as Joey on Friends. In high school and then into trade school, LeBlanc studied carpentry with plans of becoming a carpenter but his dreams turned to acting. His first acting gig was in a Heinz ketchup commercial. I’ll put the link to this commercial on the Trivia Rewind website if you’d like to see Matt LeBlanc trying to sell ketchup. Friends was on for 10 seasons and was nominated for 62 Emmy Awards. Fans will be happy to know that a Friends reunion special is in the works with HBO Max. It was supposed to shoot earlier this year but the Covid pandemic stopped that from happening. The special will bring all six of the cast members back together for the first time since Friends wrapped in 2004.

Debi Jenkins 2:29
Quote two. “The truth is out there.” This quote comes from the show The X-Files and is said by FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder played by actor David Duchovny. David Duchovny has quite the education to brag about. He graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature. He then received a Master of Arts degree in English literature from Yale University. He was working on his doctoral degree when he decided to go full time with his acting career. He is the author of several books and is a New York Times best selling author. In the year 2000, David Duchovny was the first celebrity to appear on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Celebrity Edition.

Debi Jenkins 3:20
Quote three. “You got it dude!” This quote is said by Michelle Tanner on the sitcom Full House. Michelle Tanner was played by two people, twins Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. Due to child labor laws, the show used the twins who could take turns doing the role of Michelle. When Mary Kate and Ashley were nine months old, they started their role on Full House. Fans got to watch them grow for eight seasons of the show. When it came time for college, the duo attended NYU. After a year and a half Mary Kate dropped out. Ashley only had a year and a half left before she was set to graduate when she dropped out. The two have made the news in recent years for their smoking habit. The magazine In Touch Weekly has an entire article devoted to their chain smoking. Not the way we want a picture Michelle Tanner that’s for sure. The two jointly own their own company called Dual Star. And here’s something you wouldn’t expect. The last I heard they don’t have social media. In 2016 Netflix released a sequel series called Fuller House and most of the original actors are back except for Mary Kate and Ashley.

Debi Jenkins 4:40
Quote four. “Marsha Marsha Marsha.” Well this one should be super easy. It’s said by Jan Brady on the Brady Bunch. Actress Eve Plumb plays the role of Jan. This line from the Brady Bunch is iconic, but did you know it was only said one time during the series run? The line was said in season 3 episode 10 in the episode titled My Sister’s Shadow. In the 1995 Brady Bunch movie, Jan uses this line multiple times. Actress Eve Plumb started her career at age six. Here’s something you don’t hear every day. At the age of eleven, Eve Plumb (with the help of her parents) bought her first home, an oceanfront property in Malibu, California. And talk about a good investment. When she purchased the house in 1969 it was just over $55,000. In 2016, she sold it for $3.9 million. For the past few decades, Eve Plumb has been a painter with her work being shown in galleries. She also occasionally has small roles on television shows.

Debi Jenkins 5:59
And quote five. “That’s what she said.” This quote was said by character Michael Scott on The Office. Michael Scott is played by actor Steve Carell. Life Magazine once named Steve Carell America’s Funniest Man. Before getting into acting, Carell went to college and got a degree in history. He even considered law school. Like a lot of people he felt he owed it to his parents to have a serious career. In an NJ.com interview he said that his parents sat him down and said, “look, you need to do what makes you happy.” He then started off on his acting career and the rest is history. Bob Odenkirk the star of Better Call Saul was almost cast to play Michael Scott. While the roll went to Steve Carell, Odenkirk did have a guest role in the last season of the show. Remember Michael Scott’s realtor girlfriend Carol? Well, the actress is Nancy Carell, Steve Carell’s real wife. They have been married since 1995. Currently you can see Steve Carell on Netflix in the series Space Force. He also has a series on Apple TV+ called The Morning Show and stars alongside Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon.

Trivia Rewind – Midweek Movie Quotes – You’re Killin’ Me Smalls

Debi Jenkins  0:04
Hello there Trivia Rewind listeners. This is Debi Jenkins your host. It’s time for another bonus episode of Midweek Movie Quotes. Here’s how it works. I’ll read you five quotes from movies. Then I’ll go back and give you the answers and a few quick facts about each of those movies. Are you ready to play?

Debi Jenkins  0:27
Here’s quote one. “That’ll do pig that’ll do.”

Debi Jenkins  0:32
Quote two. “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.”

Debi Jenkins  0:38
Quote three. “You’re killin’ me, Smalls.”

Debi Jenkins  0:42
Quote four. “Just keep swimming.”

Debi Jenkins  0:47
Quote five. “Hasta la vista, baby.”

Debi Jenkins  0:52
All right, those were our five quotes. Let’s go back and see how you did.

Debi Jenkins  0:58
The first quote was, “that’ll do pig, that’ll do.” That is from the movie Babe. Farmer Hoggett says this line to Babe the pig in the 1990 film Babe. Farmer Hoggett is played by actor James Cromwell. James Cromwell received an Oscar nomination for his role as farmer Hoggett. Because of the movie, he even became a vegetarian. In an article from the Vegetarian Times, he’s quoted as saying, “I decided that to be able to talk about this [movie] with conviction, I needed to become a vegetarian.” This film was nominated for seven Academy Awards.

Debi Jenkins  1:42
Quote, two. “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.” That line came from Steven Spielberg’s hit Jaws. In the movie, Sheriff Brody says this line to the character Quint. Roy Scheider played the role of Sheriff Brody. According to Scheider’s obituary, he ad-libbed the line. Supposedly, the line was kind of an inside joke among the cast and crew. A large barge was used to house all of the equipment for the movie and only a small boat was used to support it. People would tell their producers, “you’re gonna need a bigger boat” and whenever any problems would arise on set, that line would be used as a joke. So when Roy Scheider ad-libbed that line for the movie, imagine the laughs that must have produced among the rest of the cast and crew.

Debi Jenkins  2:34
Quote three. “You’re killin’ me Smalls.” Well, that line came from the 1993 coming of age sports comedy The Sandlot. Actor Patrick Renna plays the character Ham Porter in the movie, and he says this line to the character Scotty Smalls. This line was actually not in the script. It was improvised by Patrick Renna. In a Hollywood Reporter article, the director said that when the line is translated in Japanese, it’s equivalent to “Hurry up. My clothes are going out of style.” I guess you could say that line was lost in translation. Patrick Renna has his own YouTube variety show called You’re Killing me with Patrick Renna. He often features his co-stars from the movie.

Debi Jenkins  3:27
Quote four. “Just keep swimming.” This quote comes from Dory on the animated hit Finding Nemo. Dory uses this line with Marlin, Nemo’s father. The director of Finding Nemo, Andrew Stanton, well he also wrote the story. He even provided the voice for one of the characters in the movie. He was the voice of the turtle named Crush. After the movie, I’m sure you can guess what type of fish children became obsessed with? Yep, Clownfish. So much so that there was a 75% drop in the population of Clownfish in natural habitats, such as the ocean around the country Vanuatu.

Debi Jenkins  4:15
Quote five. “Hasta la vista baby.” This line comes from the 1991 film Terminator 2: Judgment Day. This phrase was made popular by Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character known as the Terminator. It’s a Spanish phrase that means “until the next sighting.” Or in more general terms, “see you later.” When the movie was released, it was the highest grossing rated R movie of all time. It was also the most expensive movie ever made at the time of its release.

Debi Jenkins  4:52

Trivia Rewind – Midweek Movie Quotes – Where We’re Going We Don’t Need Roads

Debi Jenkins  0:04
Well hello there Trivia Rewind listeners. It’s time for another bonus episode of Midweek Movie Quotes. I hope you’ve been having fun the last few weeks with these bonus episodes. Here’s how it works. I’ll read you five quotes from movies. Then I’ll go back and give you the answers and a few quick facts about each movie. Are you ready to play?

Debi Jenkins  0:29
Here’s quote one. “Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father Prepare to die.”

Debi Jenkins  0:39
Quote two. “Roads? Where we’re going we don’t need roads.”

Debi Jenkins  0:46
Quote three. “Every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings.”

Debi Jenkins  0:54
Quote four. “I do wish we could chat longer, but I’m having an old friend for dinner.”

Debi Jenkins  1:02
And quote five. “I am serious. And don’t call me Shirley.”

Debi Jenkins  1:09
Those are our five quotes for this week. Let’s go back and see how you did.

Debi Jenkins  1:16
Quote one. “Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.” Well, this well known movie line is from the movie The Princess Bride. This line was said by actor Mandy Patinkin as character Inigo Montoya, a Spanish fencer. Mandy Patinkin has told people this was his favorite movie role. Patinkin attended Juilliard and actor Kelsey Grammer was a classmate of his.

Debi Jenkins  1:52
Quote two. “Roads? Where we’re going we don’t need roads.” This memorable line came from the 1985 movie Back to the Future. In the movie, Dr. Emmett Brown, the inventor of the time machine, says this to Marty McFly. This line occurs at the very end of the film when Doc says he’s going to take Marty to the year 2015. Well, unfortunately, in 2015, we still needed roads. Flying cars were not the thing.

Debi Jenkins  2:29
Quote three. “Every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings.” Well, this famous quote comes from the 1946 Classic, It’s a Wonderful Life. Little Zuzu Bailey says this to her father at the end of the movie when a bell on the Christmas tree rings. Young Actress Carolyn Grimes play the role of Zuzu Bailey, daughter to Jimmy Stewart’s character, George. Here’s an interesting little fact. The movie was nominated for five Academy Awards. It won a Technical Achievement award at the Oscars for the development of a new method of simulating falling snow on Motion Picture sets. Well, I guess someone had to know how to do it. And we thank the special effects team at RKO for their award winning achievement.

Debi Jenkins  3:26
Quote four. “I do wish we could chat longer, but I’m having an old friend for dinner.” Well, I sure wouldn’t want to be the guest of that dinner party because that movie quote comes from the thriller, The Silence of the Lambs. The character Hannibal Lecter, played by Anthony Hopkins says this line to Clarice Starling played by actress Jodie Foster. This movie really cleaned it up at the Academy Awards. It took home five Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Adapted Screenplay. In the year 2003 the American Film Institute gave the character Hannibal Lecter the honor of being named the greatest villain in American cinema.

Debi Jenkins  4:17
And quote five. “I am serious and don’t call me Shirley” Well this line comes from the movie Airplane and it said by Dr. Rumack portrayed by actor Leslie Nielsen. Leslie Nielsen saw a boost in his career after this movie. Actor Leslie Nielsen was born in Canada, and even enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. After the movie airplane, his roles took a turn towards slapstick comedy. Even in death, Leslie Nielsen left a bit of humor. On his tombstone are the words “Let Er Rip”  a reference to his favorite practical joke, a portable hand-controlled fart machine.

You Gonna Eat Those Tots? – Midweek Movie Quotes

Debi Jenkins 0:03
Hey there, Trivia Rewind listeners. This is Debi Jenkins your host. It’s time for another bonus episode of Midweek Movie Quotes. Here’s how it works. I’m gonna read you five quotes from movies. Then I’ll go back and give you the answers and a few quick facts about each of the movies. Are you ready to play?

Debi Jenkins 0:27
Here’s quote one. “You can’t handle the truth.”

Debi Jenkins 0:34
Quote two. “I volunteer as tribute.”

Debi Jenkins 0:39
Quote, three. “You gonna eat your tots?”

Debi Jenkins 0:45
Quote four. “There’s no place like home.”

Debi Jenkins 0:50
Quote five. “Put some Windex on it.”

Debi Jenkins 0:55
Well, those were our five quotes. Were they easy? Let’s go back and see if you had the correct guess. Quote one was, “you can’t handle the truth.” That quote was from the movie A Few Good Men. Jack Nicholson’s character Colonel Jessup said this line to Tom Cruise’s character. Imagine this. The screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, he wrote down most of his ideas about the film on cocktail napkins while he had a bartending job. He would then go home and take all the cocktail napkins out of his pockets and type up the words on his computer. Sorkin was nominated for a Golden Globe for his screenplay. I may never look at a cocktail napkin the same again.

Debi Jenkins 1:44
Quote two. “I volunteer as tribute.” This quote is said by Jennifer Lawrence’s character, Katniss Everdeen in the movie Hunger Games. The Hunger Games was based on a book series of the same name. Fans were so excited for the film that at one point, Fandango reported selling 17 Hunger Games tickets per second. Fans of the book series were not too happy when they found out that Jennifer Lawrence was cast in the lead role. They were upset because she had blonde hair. In the book series, the way the author described the character had many fans thinking that the character was biracial and surely not blonde. But hair dye easily fixed that problem, and they gave her brown hair.

Debi Jenkins 2:29
Quote three. “You gonna eat your tots.?” This quote is said by Napoleon in the movie Napoleon Dynamite. He is at lunch talking with his friend Pedro, played by actor Efren Ramirez. Jon Heder plays the lead role of Napoleon. Would you believe that originally he was only paid $1,000 for his part? This was an independent film that originally started out as a short film. They had no idea how big of a hit this movie would become. Thankfully, Heder was able to renegotiate his compensation. Recently, there were talks that a sequel is in the works. We’ll see what happens with that, but I know fans everywhere would be excited.

Debi Jenkins 3:18
Quote four. “There’s no place like home.” This quote is said by Judy Garland’s character Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. Near the end of the movie, Dorothy taps the heels of her red ruby slippers three times and says this line. Did you know that in The Wizard of Oz book Dorothy’s slippers are silver? In the movie they are red because the studio thought red would look better in Technicolor. Technicolor was the most widely used color process for movies back when Wizard of Oz was being filmed. The Oz sequences were filmed in what was called three strip Technicolor. Some have asked if the Wizard of Oz was originally shot in black and white and the answer is no. If you grew up watching it on a black and white TV, then that may be why you think it was shot in black and white.

Debi Jenkins 4:10
And quote five. “Put some Windex on it.” That quote is from the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding. It is said by the character Gus played by Michael Constantine. The character believes that Windex can heal any ailment. Did you know that Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson were two of the movie’s producers? In 2020, both Hanks and Wilson officially became Greek citizens when they received their Greek passports. In 2019, their family became honorary Greek citizens. Rita Wilson is part Greek and Tom Hanks is a Greek Orthodox convert. Not only did they produce My Big Fat Greek Wedding and its sequel, they produced the Greek themed movie Mamma Mia and its sequel.

Debi Jenkins 5:02
